It was a very dark night with only speckles of light from the street lamps that lined along the sidewalk. But even then it did not make a difference as the dark still seemed to creep closer and closer. But it was not the dark that worried Shiloh, it was the burning pain she felt in her ankle and arm that had most of her attention. She tried to move as slow and steady as she could but it was hard as she had to limp the whole time.
She grumbled and cursed under her breath as each fresh stab of pain shot through her bodies. She cursed the damn creature that caused her injuries yet again in only the space of a few minuets. It did not help her mood that the creature gave her the slip after it had left a pretty big gash on her arm and threw her so hard that she twisted her ankle pretty hard.
She was at least glad that she gave it a decent sized wound before it fled from her. But knowing that it was still out there only further fueled her desire to find it and make sure that it stopped breathing entirely.
Before that could happen she needed to find a safe place to lay low for a little while as she tried to wait out the pain. It was pointless to attempt to limp all the way back to her motel that she was staying at. So she began looking around for possible safe havens for her.
As she hobbled further down the sidewalk she felt her spirits soar just a bit as she recognized one of the buildings as a church. She paced herself and made her way over to it, and hoped that it was still open so that she could rest inside for a bit. When she reached the large ornate doors of the church she tested the doors and to her surprise they opened. She quickly slipped inside and closed the door behind her as softly as she could even thought it was obvious that no one else was in the building.
Now the next step was to find somewhere to crash, so she headed for the pews inside. Even if they were hard wood it was better than nothing, she thought to herself.
