SYMBOLS OF POWER

There are several powerful symbols that appear in the canon, but the meanings and scope as explained in the show sometimes contradict. This is an overview of those symbols as they are used in the Bad Moon Rising game world.


THE DEVIL'S TRAP

This is a 'quick and dirty' trap, one which can be put together quickly and will absolutely confine a demon within its circle as long as whoever creating it is accurate with their proportions. These can be lain into dirt, painted onto floors or ceilings, even inked onto the inner lid of a car's trunk to capture and contain the unholy. However, this form of trap will not prevent demons from using their powers, even up to making deals or trying to corrupt the world around them. Anybody who has been fighting or even aware of demons for a while and who has done minimal research into the matter could learn about the Devil's Trap, and could have learned to recreate it quickly. After all, there's a lot of motivation to get it right.

THE HEPTAGRAM TRAP

A far more elaborate form of Devil's Trap, one which takes seven days and nights to construct and requires special materials, purification rituals, and so on to create. However, once it has been created, a Heptagram is a far more secure trap for the demonic. Their powers cannot escape its hold, and they can't call to others of their kind while inside it. The heptagram is complicated and obscure. Only those who have done extensive research into the matter would know of its existence, much less how to construct one properly.

ANTI-POSESSION SYMBOL

The symbol which protects against demonic possession is simple. The process needed to make it actually effective is not. It's not as easy as getting a tattoo or a cheap pewter necklace made up while claiming it's the logo of your favorite obscure metal band. The medium--whether it be a bracelet, a charm, or a tattoo--must have salt, cold iron, and silver mixed into it, and certain prayers have to be said while working different parts of the design. If you can find somebody capable of creating one, they're great, but they're harder to get your hands on than it might seem.

ANGEL BANISHING SIGIL

Drawing this symbol with blood and then touching the center of it will temporarily banish any angels in the immediate area. However, at this time, angels are appearing openly on earth for the first time in centuries, and even then only to a selected few people. Only those who are dedicated scholars of angelic/religious/Enochian lore would have any idea of the existence of this symbol, and even then they would have no real reason to believe that it would work any better than the hundreds of other sigils that turn up in Enochian lore which don't do a thing. Very, very few mortals in the world know about this symbol and how to use it.
