SALEM, OREGON
Eli gazed down at her unconscious figure—head lolling at an awkward angle on her shoulders—visibly alarmed by the sudden turn of events. Vaguely the hunter recalled the glass shattering beneath her weight on impact as well as the sudden fear coursing through her veins as she fell from the third story of the adjacent building; the pain upon collision brief before she succumbed to nothingness. Staring at her unmoving body, she cautiously examined the abrasions, which even now bled profusely, crimson rivulets staining her lips and streaming over her partially open eyelids. A small wave of relief swept over her as she registered her own heartbeat, the faint pulse reverberating throughout Eli’s fingertips.
The initial shock receded, replaced by uncertainty. She would surely die if she did not acquire medical assistance immediately. However, her hand merely glided through the material of her cell phone as if it were made of water. Eli flexed her fingers, watching with both curiosity and horror as they failed to grasp onto anything solid. The hunter bit her lip, pacing the seemingly abandoned alleyway in frustration. She could not simply watch herself die, however her best efforts appeared to be futile. Not to mention the demon she had been hunting retained its freedom; the thought of the creature continuing to roam the city caused her stomach to churn in repulsion. Her carelessness had been her downfall—she could not believe how reckless her actions were; the demon escaped and she was to blame.
Above the moon shone like a diamond in the sky and stars glistened, the only sound the distant clamor of vehicles as they sped down the street and late night stragglers. No one cared to look into the dank passageway, footsteps only receding—only disappointing her. Though the outcome she desired appeared to be an unattainable craving, Eli held onto the remaining sliver of hope within her.

The air shifted as Celine sensed another soul ready for the afterlife. She raised her hand up to the sky, closing her eyes as she pin-pointed the exact location and then nodded with a sliver of a smile. It was in the middle of a city, thankfully, instead of one of the countless murdered out in the woods by various vampire clans and the demons roaming around as of late. Perhaps it would be a simple, painless procedure this time...
Celine made her way toward the soul, sensing the light coming from it even from far away and finding herself growing weary each passing minute. The soul she was approaching was good and full of justice- probably that of a hunter. It always bothered her to help a hunter pass on as that was one less on the side of good in this time of hardship.
Celine paused, hesitating briefly before finally approaching the soul. Eli Cross. The name flittered into her mind like some intangible emotion- fresh and alive. She was a hunter, a young one at that.
"Eli Cross." Celine tried to make her voice as sweet and gentle as possible, respecting the girl, or should she say soul, in front of her. "I am afraid that it's time to pass on. Your battle with evil is at it's end."

The hunter’s eyes widened in astonishment, her brow furrowed as she absorbed the woman’s words. Her sudden appearance did not alarm Eli; she was accustomed to being caught unawares considering her profession. However, the individual’s voice pierced her as sharp and painful as a knife, causing a heady concoction of shock, anger, and fear to form within her. Eli could not believe that a mere week subsequent to selling her soul she would be hauled to Hell nine years prior to the intended date. There was business that required her immediate attention, which strengthened her resolve to remain walking the earth until the designated deadline.
“That is grand, however I do believe I will have to decline your offer, ma’am,” she responded, voice unwavering. “It appears you have been ill-informed. I have approximately nine years, eleven months, and twenty-three days before I am Hell-bound, you see.” Eli folded her arms across her chest, scrutinizing the woman through unblinking green eyes, awaiting her response. The only entity that possessed the ability to guide her from this realm to the next was Crowley—or rather a hellhound; she would fight the good if need be in order to retain her mortality for the time being.

Celine's turned his gaze up at the moon for a moment before sighing. Another hunter who had chosen a path such as this. It was really a shame for so many to give up a peaceful eternity for...well, whatever their heart desired. She turned back to Eli after a moment of silence. What would this hunter do then? It was possibly that the crossroads demon that helped her would come and put her back into her body but Celine wondered how long that would take. This girl-Eli Cross-could be stranded between life and death for quite awhile.
"You have made a deal with a crossroads demon then? How unfortunate," Celine's gaze softened, "So what was the bargain you made, if I may be so bold as to ask? Your soul is full of light- good without any residing evil I can see. I cannot imagine you did it for anything meager. Was it to save a life? To trade yours for someone who you care about?"
